The recent flooding in Anand Nagar on Sinhagad Road has led to the suspension of Assistant Commissioner Sandeep Khalate. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale ordered an inquiry into Khalate’s failure to manage the floodwater inundation in the area, which affected numerous societies.

Residents of Ekta Nagar, Vitthal Nagar, and Nimbaj Nagar were left dealing with the aftermath of the flooding, including the lack of prompt assistance, cleanup, and necessary health-related measures. Complaints from Vitthal Nagar residents regarding inadequate water supply and sanitation prompted Commissioner Bhosale to take action against Khalate.

Khalate has been suspended under Section 56 (2) (f) of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act, with the Deputy Commissioner (Zone No. 3) tasked with conducting the investigation. Khalate is prohibited from leaving the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation without prior permission and is entitled to receive a subsistence allowance during his suspension.

This incident follows Commissioner Bhosale’s previous order for municipal workers to perform night duties during heavy rains in June. There is now a demand to investigate whether these workers fulfilled their responsibilities effectively in light of the recent flood situation.
