The recent outbreak of Guillian Barre Syndrome (GBS) in Pune has the city on edge, with over 60 reported cases and patients being treated in ICU. Concerned about the situation, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and Additional Commissioner Prithviraj BP took matters into their own hands by inspecting water sources in affected areas.

The focus of their inspections was on suburbs like Dhayari, Kirkatwadi, Nanded, and Narhe along Sinhagad Road, as well as parts of Hingne. These areas heavily rely on untreated water from the PMC, as they are considered village zones. Contaminated water is suspected to be the main cause of the outbreak, with many patients showing symptoms similar to paralytic ileus.

During their visit, Commissioner Bhosale and Additional Commissioner Prithviraj interacted with residents in Nanded village, Nanded well, Dhayari, and DSK Vishwa. The residents expressed their frustration over the lack of access to clean water despite being part of the municipal jurisdiction for years.

Residents highlighted the use of untreated water from wells and tankers as the main source of contamination. In response, the Commissioner ordered immediate actions, such as installing protective nets at Nanded well to prevent impurities from entering the water supply. The authorities are working diligently to address the water-related issues and prevent further cases of GBS in the city.
