Hey there, Pune peeps! In some news that might interest you, the Municipal Commissioner of PMC, Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, is taking some serious steps to address the flood situation in our beloved city. After a recent report highlighted the causes of the flood that hit Pune earlier this year, Dr. Bhosale has instructed officials to come up with both short-term and long-term solutions to prevent such disasters in the future.
In a meeting held on December 11 at the Municipal Corporation, officials from the Municipal Corporation and the Irrigation Department discussed the steps that need to be taken to avoid a repeat of the flood situation. The heavy rainfall in the catchment area of Khadakwasla Dam earlier this year led to an overflow of the river, causing floods that affected areas like Ekta Nagari on Sinhagad Road, Deccan, Khilare Vasti, and Patil Estate.
Citizens faced major losses due to the floods, prompting Municipal Commissioner Bhosale to set up a committee to investigate the root cause of the issue. The committee submitted its report, leading to the meeting held today to discuss potential solutions.
For short-term measures, the focus will be on removing encroachments and debris from the riverbed, along with taking strict action against those who contribute to the pollution of the river. Long-term measures include removing unnecessary embankments, relocating flood-affected areas like Ekta Nagari, and constructing a boundary wall to prevent floodwaters from entering residential areas.
It’s a step in the right direction to ensure the safety and well-being of all Punekars. Let’s hope these measures lead to a safer and flood-free future for our city. Stay safe, Pune!
