Hey there, Pune residents! Have you heard about the latest safety measures being implemented in our city? In the aftermath of a recent rape incident in Bopdev Ghat, Pune Police are taking action to improve security in 274 deserted spots across the city.

The police conducted a thorough inspection and identified areas at risk of crimes, particularly those affecting women. They have called on the Pune Municipal Corporation to install street lights and CCTV cameras in these vulnerable locations to ensure the safety of residents.

The Municipal Corporation has already started work on installing street lights in some of the identified areas, with 18 electric poles erected in the Bopdev Ghat area and 63 along the Taljai foothills to Taljai Mandir route. In addition, 8,950 new high-efficiency lamps have been installed in the Sinhagad Road Ward Office area this year.

But the improvements don’t stop there. The Municipal Corporation is also working on enhancing lighting in other regions like Dhankawadi-Sahakarnagar, Warje-Karvenagar, and Kondhwa-Yewalewadi. In the coming year, 1,666 new electric poles will be installed in villages within the city’s expanding areas to further boost safety.

Manisha Shekatkar, head of the electricity department, mentioned that 677 tree branches have been trimmed along major roads and VIP routes to ensure proper street lighting. These efforts demonstrate the Municipal Corporation’s dedication to enhancing public safety, especially in areas that previously lacked adequate lighting.

Stay tuned for more updates on the city’s safety measures and remember to stay safe, Pune!
