The Abhay Yojana, approved by the Pune Municipal Corporation, is set to regularize unauthorized tap connections in the city. This move is aimed at formalizing these connections, increasing revenue for the Municipal Corporation, and ensuring equal access to water for citizens.

Residents in the municipal limits and 34 newly included villages will benefit from this scheme. The simplification of documentation requirements, with fewer documents needed for authorization, is a key highlight. Applicants now only need to provide proof of ownership, income tax payment receipt, Aadhaar card, and a construction occupation letter if available, along with a Rs 500 bond on stamp paper.

This initiative comes in response to the challenges posed by unauthorized tap connections and aims to streamline water distribution management by the Municipal Corporation. The approval of the Abhay Yojana during a standing committee meeting marks a significant step towards addressing these issues and improving water access for residents in Pune.
