Hey Pune peeps, listen up! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is cracking down on those who are making the city dirty. The PMC Solid Waste Management Department has taken action against a whopping 52,405 citizens for dumping garbage in public places. That’s a lot of litterbugs!
And it’s not just a slap on the wrist either – fines totaling over Rs 3.28 crore have been imposed on these offenders. Ouch! This is the highest number of fines and the biggest penalty recovery in the past three years, so you better think twice before tossing that trash on the street.
The department has identified a staggering 923 chronic garbage dumping spots in the city. That’s a lot of hotspots for filth! But fear not, measures are being put in place to reduce the number of these chronic spots. We all want a cleaner Pune, right?
However, despite these efforts, heaps of garbage can still be spotted in many parts of the city. Why, you ask? Well, it’s a combination of manpower shortage, citizens not segregating their waste, and issues in garbage collection. We all need to do our part to keep Pune clean!
To keep things in check, the PMC has deployed 18 squads to catch citizens red-handed dumping garbage in open spaces. These squads are out and about during the day, cruising around the city in their own vehicles. So, if you’re thinking of breaking the rules, think again – these squads mean business!
The most common offenses? Dumping garbage in public places and not segregating waste. Let’s all do our part to keep Pune beautiful, shall we? Let’s all pitch in and make our city a cleaner, greener place to live!
