Hey Pune folks, big news coming your way! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has just announced a strict ban on Plaster of Paris (POP) idols to protect the environment. This decision was made in compliance with new environmental regulations and a recent High Court directive.
So, what does this mean for upcoming festivals and celebrations? Well, idol makers and organizers will now have to switch to eco-friendly materials for making idols. No more POP idols allowed! Instead, idols must be made from natural, biodegradable materials.
And when it comes to immersions, idols must be immersed in designated artificial ponds or collection centers. Say goodbye to toxic chemical paints and plastic usage, as only biodegradable materials and safe colors are allowed.
The PMC is urging everyone to follow these guidelines to ensure sustainable celebrations and protect the environment. Failure to comply could result in legal action under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
While this move may change the way festivals like Ganeshotsav are celebrated, environmentalists are applauding the decision for its potential to reduce water pollution and ecological damage.
Let’s all do our part to keep Pune green and clean!
