Hey Pune peeps, listen up! The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is cracking down on citizens who feed pigeons in public spaces. Yep, you heard that right. If you’re caught feeding those winged creatures, you might just have to cough up some cash.
According to PMC Solid Waste Management Department Head Sandeep Kadam, fines totaling Rs 28,000 have been collected from 37 cases of pigeon feeding from December 1 to 18. That’s a pretty hefty sum, if you ask me.
Why all the fuss, you ask? Well, apparently pigeon droppings are a breeding ground for germs, viruses, and feathers that can cause infections in your lungs. Yikes! So, it’s no wonder that the civic body is urging citizens to stop feeding these birds in open spaces.
But despite the warnings, some folks in areas like Kothrud, Warje Malwadi, Swargate, and Sarasbaug are still at it. And they’re not getting away with it either, as penalties are being enforced on the offenders.
Municipal Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale isn’t messing around either. He’s ordered the Solid Waste Department to go after anyone caught feeding pigeons in public places. After all, ‘Hyper Sensitive Pneumonia’ is no joke, with a whopping 60-65 percent incidence rate.
So, let’s do our part, Puneites. Keep those food grains away from the pigeons and help prevent respiratory illnesses. It’s for your own good, trust me.
