Hey there Pune residents, have you heard the latest news from the PMC? They’ve decided to crack down on open waste burning by increasing the spot fine from ₹500 to ₹5,000. That’s a significant jump, so make sure you’re disposing of your waste properly!
To help enforce this new rule, the PMC has deployed eight flying squad vehicles to keep an eye out for open burning, plastic ban violations, and other solid waste management issues. It’s all part of their efforts to keep Pune clean and green.
Speaking of cleanliness, did you know that the PMC has been working hard to clear chronic waste burning spots around the city? Out of the 928 spots identified earlier this year, 719 have already been cleared and 230 have been beautified. Kudos to the team for their efforts!
But it’s not all good news. The Hadapsar-Mundhwa region still has the highest number of remaining chronic spots, with 44 yet to be cleared. Let’s hope the PMC can tackle these spots soon and make Pune a cleaner place for all of us.
On a slightly different note, activist groups like Pune Air Action Hub have been critical of the PMC for not sharing monthly reports on their website. The NGT order specifically called for monthly reviews of garbage burning measures to be made public, so let’s hope the PMC can address this issue soon.
That’s all for now, Pune folks. Keep up the good work in keeping our city clean and green!
