The Pune Municipal Corporation has taken a major step towards increasing transparency and efficiency in development works by introducing the Intelligent Works Management System (IWMS). This system will allow citizens to easily access information about ongoing projects in their area with just a click.
One of the key features of the IWMS is that all work processes, from estimates to bill payments, will be paperless. This will not only save time but also prevent duplication of work and ensure that repairs are carried out during the defect liability period.
City engineer Prashant Waghmare shared that the IWMS has been in development for the past two years and has been funded through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The system has already been implemented on a pilot basis, with engineers from all departments trained to use it.
By linking the IWMS with a Geographic Information System (GIS), the municipal administration aims to streamline work processes and increase transparency. Citizens will be able to access information about when a project was completed, its defect liability period, and even view before and after photos with a single click.
Furthermore, the IWMS will help different departments coordinate their work and budget provisions, leading to more efficient planning and execution. This system will also facilitate quick bill payments by connecting with the audit department through the SAP system.
In the future, the administration plans to introduce barcodes at project sites, allowing citizens to scan them for detailed information about the work being carried out. With the ultimate goal of enhancing transparency and accountability, the administration is committed to continually improving the IWMS to meet the needs of citizens and address any challenges encountered during project implementation.
