In a recent development in Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to step in and cover medical expenses for individuals who are injured in stray dog attacks. This decision comes after a series of alarming incidents in the city, including a recent attack on a five-year-old boy in Katraj.

The PMC will also provide financial assistance to families of those who lose their lives due to mishaps caused by municipal negligence, such as falling trees or open pits. This decision was prompted by a recent incident in which a five-year-old boy was severely injured in a stray dog attack and is currently receiving treatment in the ICU at a private hospital.

Over the past two months, Pune has seen an increase in severe cases of stray dog attacks, with multiple incidents reported. To address this issue, the PMC has proposed free medical treatment for victims in panel hospitals under the Urban Poor Scheme. Additionally, in cases of municipal negligence, the municipal corporation will bear the treatment costs.

However, the current budget does not allocate specific funds for accident victims, leading to delays in providing assistance. To address this issue, the PMC is working on creating a dedicated budgetary provision in the upcoming financial year budget to ensure immediate assistance is available for victims of such incidents in the future.

This move by the PMC aims to provide much-needed support to individuals affected by these unfortunate incidents and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
