Pune-based off-roading enthusiasts Ghanshyam Singh and Dr. Vitesh Popli recently made headlines by braving sub-zero temperatures and completing one of the toughest drives of their career together. The duo, known as Team Sanyogi, participated in the Mountain GOAT expedition, an endurance drive from Shimla to Kaza via Manali, where they faced extreme weather conditions that dipped to 30 degrees below zero.

During the expedition, which ran from February 16 to 23, Ghanshyam and Dr. Popli navigated their 4WD Mahindra Thar through challenging terrains, including slippery black ice and 4-5 feet of snow near Kaza. They had to skip passing through Atal tunnel due to heavy traffic near Manali and faced the toughest drive at Jalori pass, which is closed throughout the year.

Their perseverance paid off when they became part of the “record largest convoy of 4WD vehicles to reach Spiti valley in the Mountain GOAT of Himachal Pradesh,” as listed in the Asia Book of Records. The duo attributed their success to three months of physical and mental preparation, focusing on discipline, and living in the moment.

Upon returning to Pune, Ghanshyam and Dr. Vitesh shared their experiences, highlighting the challenges of driving in extreme weather conditions, such as temperatures dropping to minus 35 degrees and the risk of avalanches. They emphasized the importance of following safety measures, respecting nature, and staying prepared for any adversity.

Despite facing high-altitude sickness and witnessing other vehicles skidding at Jalori pass, the two off-roaders managed to control their vehicle with precision and caution. They credited their success to their mental and physical preparedness, high-intensity endurance, and ultimate test of man and machine in a hostile environment.

Overall, Ghanshyam Singh and Dr. Vitesh Popli’s achievement in the Mountain GOAT expedition serves as a testament to their determination, resilience, and commitment to off-road adventure. Their journey not only landed them in the Asia Book of Records but also inspired fellow enthusiasts to embrace challenges and push their limits in pursuit of their dreams.
