Hey Pune peeps, get ready for some major road construction news! The Pune Outer Ring Road project is finally moving forward, with land acquisition expected to be completed by March 2025. This means that construction will soon begin, and the entire 138-km-long project should be up and running by September 2027.
According to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) Vice Chairman and Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad, the project is divided into two phases. The Eastern Phase will stretch from Urse on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway to Shivare on the Pune-Satara Highway, covering a distance of 74.08 km. The Western Phase, on the other hand, will be a 64.45-km circular route connecting Shivare to Urse.
In order to make this project a reality, land needs to be acquired from 83 villages in Maval, Khed, Purandar, and Haveli talukas for the eastern section, and from 64 hectares in Mulshi, Haveli, and Bhor talukas for the western section. Gaikwad mentioned that once land acquisition is complete, construction is expected to take around two-and-a-half years.
To speed up the land acquisition process, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has requested ₹800 crore from the state government. But don’t worry about funding – MSRDC already has loans secured from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) to cover the costs.
The Pune Outer Ring Road will not only improve regional connectivity but also ease traffic congestion within the city. It’s going to make commuting a whole lot easier for those bypassing Pune, reducing travel time and cutting down on pollution. So get excited, Puneites – smoother roads are on the horizon!
