Leopards in Ambegaon are causing quite a stir, with the Bhimashankar Cooperative Sugar Factory taking action by filing a PIL in the Bombay High Court. The factory’s chairman, Balasaheb Bende, revealed that the increase in leopard attacks is directly related to the expansion of sugarcane cultivation in the area, providing leopards with a suitable habitat.
With leopards increasingly venturing into human settlements in search of prey, the factory is calling for the sterilization of leopards as a solution to prevent further attacks and control their population. According to Bende, the rise in leopard attacks has not only impacted domestic animals but also endangered the lives of men, women, and children.
The PIL, filed under the guidance of State Co-operation Minister Dilip Valse Patil, aims to address the ongoing conflict between leopards and humans in Ambegaon. Adv. Tejas Deshmukh, representing the Bhimashankar Factory, is confident that government-led sterilization efforts will help reduce the incidents of leopard attacks in the region.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as authorities work towards finding a solution to the leopard-human conflict in Ambegaon.
