The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a bold step by halting the work of 105 construction projects across the city for failing to meet CPCB guidelines. These projects, including those by prominent builders and educational institutions, were found to be neglecting necessary precautions to curb pollution.

Construction activities in areas like Erandwana, Sahakarnagar, Kothrud, and others have been contributing to pollution levels in the city. Despite previous warnings, many projects continued to violate CPCB regulations, prompting the PMC to take action.

PMC officials have halted 91 projects on the first day and an additional 14 on the second day. Show cause notices have been issued to 67 projects in Zone 5, requiring them to provide explanations for non-compliance.

PMC Superintending Engineer Shridhar Yevlekar emphasized that adherence to pollution control regulations is mandatory for all construction activities in the city. The corporation is committed to ensuring that projects comply with environmental norms before work can resume.

This crackdown has caused a stir in Pune’s construction sector, with reports of builders and developers attempting to pressure the PMC to reverse its decision. However, the corporation remains steadfast in its commitment to enforcing pollution control measures for the benefit of public health and the environment.
