1. Employees of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are facing financial hardship due to fines ranging from a few thousand rupees to ₹1.5 lakh per employee, collected in two installments. This has led to some employees going without their salaries for up to two months.
  2. President Bajrang Pokharkar and Vice President Vishal Thombre of the PMC Employees’ Union have called for a stop to the recovery process. They argue that employees were never informed about their liabilities dating back to 2014. If timely communication had been given, employees could have paid in manageable installments and even claimed refunds.
  3. Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. has promised to investigate the matter and ensure that salaries of unaffected employees will not be withheld. Chief Accounts Officer Ulka Kalaskar clarified that the fines are being collected as per the mandate of the Income Tax Department, not the PMC’s internal administration.
  4. The PMC Employees’ Union is pushing for transparency and fair treatment for all employees affected by the fines. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing issue.
