In a move that will bring hope to those battling Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced free treatment for patients at its Kamala Nehru Hospital. Patients seeking care at private hospitals will also receive financial aid of up to ₹2 lakh under the Urban Poor Scheme. This comes as a huge relief for many who struggle with the high cost of treatment for GBS.
The initiative was spearheaded by Pune MP and Union Minister of State Muralidhar Mohol, who recognized the increasing number of GBS cases in the city. After discussions with Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale and Health Chief Dr. Nina Borade, Mohol proposed financial support for GBS patients, which was quickly approved.
Under the new scheme, GBS patients will have access to free ‘Immunoglobulin’ injections, a crucial aspect of their treatment. Mohol emphasized the importance of providing this assistance, stating that the rising cases of GBS in Pune are a cause for concern and the cost of treatment can be overwhelming for many families.
The PMC has also pledged to take preventive measures to address the situation and support patients during this challenging time. This move is sure to provide much-needed relief to GBS patients and their loved ones in Pune.
