Hey there, folks in Pune! Looks like things are heating up over at PMPML as the employees are not messing around with their demands. The main three requests on their list include immediate payment of the arrears of the 7th Pay Commission, regularization of temporary daily wage workers who have been putting in the hours for six years, and timely promotions for employees.

Now, the employees have joined forces and formed an action committee under Pramod Bhangire due to the administration’s failure to address their demands. On July 22, 2024, the committee issued a notice warning that if their demands were not met, all 15 depots in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad would be shut down. Yikes.

Unfortunately, it seems like the administration did not take the notice seriously, and now the PMPML employees have initiated a strike as a last resort. This strike is going to cause some major inconvenience for the millions of citizens in Pune who rely on PMPML bus services every day. School and college students, as well as working individuals, are going to be affected, and the blame is being placed squarely on the PMPML administration.

Letters have been flying left and right regarding this issue, with appeals being made to various authorities including the Pune District Collector, Pune Police Commissioner, Swargate Police Station, SP Office, and the PMPML administration through Shiv Sena Pune. Previous attempts to address the situation were made on July 10, 2024, but it seems like the employees have had enough.

The ball is now in the court of Managing Director Nitin Narvekar to address the concerns of the temporary workers. Promises were made in February to regularize their employment, but so far, nothing has materialized. And now, the employees have taken matters into their own hands with an indefinite strike. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing situation!
