If you’re a regular commuter on PMPML buses in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, you might soon notice a new addition to the interior – CCTV cameras. In light of recent incidents of eve-teasing and thefts on board buses, the PMPML administration has decided to take steps to ensure the safety of passengers.

A recent incident on a bus travelling from Swargate to Wakdewadi saw a woman taking matters into her own hands and thrashing a man who was allegedly eve-teasing her. This incident, along with others, has prompted the administration to install CCTV cameras in their buses.

In the first phase of this initiative, three CCTV cameras will be installed in each of the 1,006 buses belonging to the PMPML fleet. A tender process is currently underway for the installation of the cameras, which are said to be of superior quality.

With around 13 lakh passengers using PMPML buses on a daily basis, the installation of CCTV cameras is expected to bring at least 9 lakh passengers within the surveillance coverage. Nitin Narvekar, the Joint Managing Director of PMPML, stated that the cameras will be installed within two months.

This move marks the first time that CCTV cameras will be installed in PMPML buses, and it is seen as a positive step towards ensuring the safety and security of passengers. Keep an eye out for these new additions in the coming months as the buses get equipped with this new safety feature.
