In a recent development in Pune, the city police have made a significant arrest that has caught the attention of the public. Gajanan, also known as Gajya Marne, a notorious goon, has been taken into custody following an assault on a computer engineer in Kothrud. The Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) has been invoked against his gang in response to the incident.
The arrest of Gajya Marne comes after a computer engineer named Devendra Jog was attacked by members of the Marne gang on the 19th of February. A photo of a seemingly unassuming Gajya Marne has been making rounds on social media platforms, sparking conversations about the arrest.
Pune City Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar, has revealed that the police are gathering information on the assets and vehicles used by Marne and his accomplices. Measures are being taken to dismantle the influence of the Marne gang in Kothrud, with a special cell being established in the Crime Branch for citizens to report any grievances against the gang.
Three other members of the gang have also been apprehended in connection to the assault on Jog. However, one accomplice, Shrikant alias Babya Sambhaji Pawar, remains at large. The arrested individuals have a history of involvement in serious crimes.
Initially, the police had registered a case of minor assault in response to the incident. However, following public outcry, Commissioner Kumar ordered a thorough investigation and stricter action. The Crime Branch has conducted searches at multiple locations, including Marne’s residence on Paud Road in Kothrud.
Commissioner Kumar has emphasized the use of mobile phone data and CCTV footage in the investigation. He has also issued a warning to gang members, urging them to integrate into society to avoid facing severe consequences for disrupting law and order in the city.
These developments were shared by Commissioner Kumar during an interaction with journalists organized by the Pune Shramik Patrakar Sangh, where he addressed concerns regarding the city’s law and order situation.
