It was a chaotic scene in Hadapsar yesterday when a police officer was attacked with a koyta while trying to break up a fight between two bike riders. The incident occurred in the Sasane Nagar area around 4 PM and resulted in injuries to Assistant Police Inspector Ratnadeep Gaikwad. The attackers, identified as Rahul Singh and Nihal Singh, both 19 years old and residents of Hadapsar, fled the scene but were later apprehended by the Pune Police’s Crime Branch in Solapur.

The altercation started when an argument broke out between the two bike riders and escalated when Nihal Singh and Rahul Singh got involved, armed with a koyta. API Gaikwad stepped in to try and stop the fight but was struck in the forehead by Nihal Singh’s weapon. Deputy Commissioner of Police R. Raja and Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar were quick to respond, with Kumar personally visiting Gaikwad in the hospital and ensuring that the culprits were caught.

The swift action of the Pune Police led to the arrest of both Rahul Singh and Nihal Singh, who have a history of criminal activity. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis and highlights the importance of community support in maintaining public safety.
