Pune Police Commissioner Bans Laser Lights During Ganpati Immersion Procession

Last year, the unbridled use of laser beam lights during the Ganpati immersion procession in Pune caused injuries to the eyes of participants. In response to this, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar has now banned the use of laser lights during the immersion procession. He has warned that action will be taken against violators.

A meeting was organized with the Manache Ganesh mandals, the five leading mandals, at the Police Commissionerate. CP Kumar interacted with the media after the meeting, emphasizing the need to adhere to Supreme Court instructions regarding the use of loudspeakers and other equipment during the festival.

The police are also focusing on traffic management during Ganeshotsav, with preparations underway to address thefts, traffic problems, and the installation of CCTV cameras. Suggestions have been made by Ganesh mandal office-bearers regarding traffic issues and parkings within the Faraskhana-Vishrambaug police stations.

The Manache Mandals have decided to use Dhol-Tasha pathaks instead of loudspeakers during the immersion procession, opting for a more traditional approach. The police will be discussing the number of Dhol-Tasha pathaks allowed per mandal, as well as the number of players in each troupe.

Additionally, there will be a time limit for playing Dhol-Tasha at chowks, with discussions planned with the Dhol-Tasha Mahasangh. Some mandal workers have also called for a ban on alcohol sales during the festival, with CP Kumar stating that they will follow up with the District Collector regarding the closure of liquor shops for 10 days.
