Hey there, folks! Today we’ve got a wild story coming out of Saswad, Pune. A police constable fell victim to a sneaky QR code scam, losing a whopping ₹2.3 lakh in the process. Yikes!
So, here’s what went down: our constable friend was just trying to pay a bill at a local bakery when he got caught up in this mess. He scanned a QR code as instructed, and next thing he knew, money was disappearing from his accounts left and right. Nearly ₹19,000 from his savings account, over ₹12,000 from his salary account, and a whopping ₹1.9 lakh from his gold loan account – all without his permission. Talk about a nightmare!
But our constable wasn’t about to take this lying down. He quickly froze all his accounts and credit cards to stop any further losses. Smart move, buddy!
Now, how did this happen, you ask? Well, it seems those sneaky fraudsters got access to his phone and bank details through a shady APK file. They might have tricked him into clicking on a malicious link, which then let them steal his login info and OTPs. Crafty, but also super shady.
The police are on the case, trying to figure out if the QR code itself was tampered with or if there were other tricks at play. Stay safe out there, folks, and remember to always double-check those QR codes before scanning!
