With the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections just around the corner, the Pune city police have been busy cracking down on notorious criminals to ensure a smooth and safe voting process. Over 2,500 criminals were targeted in a recent search operation, leading to the apprehension of 15 known offenders. The Crime Branch also managed to seize 25 pistols and 38 live cartridges from repeat offenders, further aiding in maintaining law and order.

In a bid to prevent any election-related incidents, the police conducted searches of 1,513 individuals with criminal records across five zones of the Pune City Police Commissionerate. This led to the arrest of 990 notorious criminals, with 13 individuals being booked under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities Act of 1981. A total of 81 weapons, including knives, were confiscated during these operations.

The Crime Branch’s actions included seizing illegal pistols, arresting individuals for unlawful possession of firearms, cracking down on drug-related offenses, and taking preventive actions against potential troublemakers. Commissioner of Police for Pune City, Amitesh Kumar, emphasized the importance of maintaining public peace and urged everyone to abide by the model code of conduct during this crucial time.
