Pune Police Crime Branch Takes Over Investigation into IT Engineer Assault Case in Kothrud, Launches Special Cell to Combat Organized Crime

1. Big development in the investigation of IT Engineer Devendra Jog’s assault in Kothrud – the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch.
2. Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar announced the transfer, highlighting the involvement of the Gajya Marne gang in the incident.
3. The assault took place during a Shiv Jayanti procession in Bhelke Nagar, Kothrud, with gang members including Om Tirtharam Dharmajignasu, Kiran Kondiba Padwal, and Amol Vinayak Tapkir attacking Jog.
4. The accused, along with gang leader Gajanan alias Gajya Marne, have been arrested and charged with attempted murder under MCOCA.
5. The Crime Branch conducted raids at 74 locations to gather information on Marne’s properties and vehicles.
6. CP Amitesh Kumar urged citizens to report any complaints against the Marne gang, promising confidentiality for informants.
7. A special cell will be set up within the Crime Branch, led by DCP Nikhil Pingle, to encourage public cooperation in combating organized crime in the area.
