Pune Police have recently laid down strict rules for candidates participating in the upcoming assembly elections. Candidates are now limited to using a maximum of 10 vehicles during campaign rounds, with a 200-meter distance and a 15-minute gap required between two convoys. These regulations, set by Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, aim to ensure a peaceful and orderly election process by adhering to the election code of conduct.
The Pune City Police Commissionerate, which oversees 11 assembly constituencies, including Shirur, Purandar, Bhor, and others, will enforce these guidelines uniformly. Candidates must now inform the Senior Police Inspector of their respective police stations about any meetings, processions, or events they plan to organize, and permission must be obtained before conducting these activities.
The use of loudspeakers, a common feature of election campaigns, will also be closely monitored. No loudspeakers are allowed between 10 PM and 6 AM, as per a Supreme Court directive, and legal action will be taken against those who violate this rule. Additionally, loudspeakers are prohibited near schools, colleges, and hospitals, and can only be used when campaign vehicles are stationary.
These measures are put in place to maintain law and order, minimize disruptions, and ensure a smooth election process. Pune Police have assured the public that they will strictly enforce the code of conduct throughout the election period.
