Additional Commissioner of Police, Manoj Patil, stated that eight lives were lost in fatal accidents caused by drunk driving in 2024. Checkpoints are strategically placed in areas known for nightlife hotspots. Offenders face fines up to Rs 10,000 for first-time offenses and possible imprisonment for repeat offenses. The police are rotating checkpoints regularly to catch offenders and have impounded over 5,000 vehicles to deter drunk driving.
