It’s been a week since the shocking gang rape in Pune’s Bopdev Ghat area, and the three accused are still on the run. Pune Police are leaving no stone unturned in their search for the suspects, having questioned around 450 known criminals in 40 villages and settlements around the area. These criminals have previous records of robbery, molestation, and rape, especially in the ghats and hilly regions of Pune.
The incident took place on the night of 3rd October when a college girl was brutally assaulted while out for a walk with a friend in Bopdev Ghat. To track down the perpetrators, police have formed 60 teams and are analyzing mobile phone data of individuals who passed through the area in the last 15 days. However, the investigation has been hampered by poor mobile network coverage, with suspicions that the accused may have fled through Saswad.
Authorities are now scouring CCTV footage from locations up to 80 kilometers away from the crime scene and have visited numerous villages and settlements near Bopdev Ghat to gather information from locals. Despite examining footage from roadside hotels, many blind spots have complicated the search for the suspects.
To bolster their efforts, police have enlisted the help of investigation teams from Saswad and the Rajgad Police Station, as well as seeking information from inmates at Yerawada Jail who may have knowledge of the criminals. Sketches of the suspects are being shown to these inmates in the hope of identifying them and bringing them to justice.
