Pune, known for its vibrant culture and bustling streets, has been facing a rise in street crimes recently. From chain snatchings to harassment of women, the city has seen an increase in criminal activities that have left citizens feeling unsafe.
To combat this issue, Pune Police is gearing up to launch the ‘Cop-24’ beat marshal system. This new initiative, set to roll out on 15th February, aims to enhance safety and reduce response times in the city.
The key features of ‘Cop-24’ include an enhanced response time, strategic deployment of patrol teams in high-crime areas, and the integration of technology through QR codes for monitoring purposes. With a total of 726 beat marshals equipped with 125 two-wheelers and vans, the system is designed to ensure quick and effective responses to emergencies.
The objectives of ‘Cop-24’ are clear – to maintain law and order, prevent criminal activities, ensure swift arrival at crime scenes, and engage with local citizens to resolve issues. The beat marshals, operating under the Crime Branch, will receive specialized training on handling critical situations and will be equipped with modern weapons and body cameras for accountability.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade has emphasized that the primary goal of ‘Cop-24’ is to curb criminal activities and restore public confidence in law enforcement. With these measures in place, Pune Police is taking proactive steps to make the city safer for all its residents.
