The Pune Police’s Crime Branch made a major bust on Sinhagad Road yesterday, seizing Gutkha worth a whopping Rs 1 crore 39 lakh. The raid, which took place in the Narhe area, also led to the discovery of raw materials used in the production of Gutkha. Four individuals were arrested in connection with the illegal activity, while one suspect is still on the run.

The suspects, identified as Pushpendra Akbal Singh, Sunil Patthan Singh, Chandan Ajaypal Singh, and Mukesh Kaluram Gehlot, were all apprehended during the raid. A man named Nilesh Lalwani, who is believed to be involved in the operation, is currently evading law enforcement.

Gutkha is banned in Maharashtra, making the seizure all the more significant. The Crime Branch received a tip-off about the stash of Gutkha in the Narhe area and swiftly took action. The illicit substance was reportedly being distributed to various parts of Pune from the godown on Sinhagad Road.

The operation was executed under the direction of Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, with support from Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende. The accused individuals are facing charges under the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006.

This successful raid serves as a reminder of the diligent work being done by law enforcement to crack down on illegal activities in the city.
