Hey there, Pune folks! Brace yourselves for some good news on the traffic front. Pune Police, along with Pimpri-Chinchwad and Rural Police, are teaming up to tackle the pesky traffic congestion along the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass.

Starting soon, heavy vehicles will be banned from using the outer ring road during peak hours, specifically between 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. This move aims to ease the traffic woes that have been causing headaches for commuters during rush hours.

The Hinjewadi IT Park has been a major contributor to the increase in traffic flow along the bypass, leading to frequent jams and, unfortunately, accidents. To combat these issues, Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil announced the decision to restrict heavy vehicles during peak hours.

The plan is to send a proposal outlining these restrictions to the District Collector for final approval. The goal is to alleviate congestion at key choke points like the narrow bridges at Vadgaon and over the Mutha River at Warje.

Last year, 21 lives were lost in accidents on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass. With 15 fatalities already recorded in the first eight months of this year, it’s clear that action needs to be taken. The police are hoping that by implementing these restrictions, they can reduce accidents and keep traffic flowing smoothly on the outer ring road.

To accommodate heavy vehicle operators, designated parking areas have been set up in the Khed Shivapur area and along the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Similar restrictions have already been successful on highways in Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai, so there’s hope that this move will make a positive impact in Pune as well.

So, here’s to safer and more efficient travel for everyone on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass. Let’s hope these restrictions bring some much-needed relief to Pune’s traffic troubles!
