In a bold move to tackle the rising issue of organized crime in Pune, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has issued a stern warning to criminal elements in the city following the brutal murder of former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar in Nana Peth. The commissioner vowed to respond to gangsters and goons in their own language, adopting a ‘tit for tat’ strategy and signaling an uncompromising approach towards hooliganism.
The murder of Andekar, son of notorious gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, has shed light on the increasing problem of violence in Pune. Commissioner Kumar revealed that the murder was a result of a premeditated conspiracy stemming from family disputes and financial rivalry. He emphasized that the police are prepared to take stringent measures to eradicate bullying and will not hesitate to take action against anyone aiding the criminals.
In the wake of Andekar’s murder, 15 individuals, including three minors, have been arrested by the police. Commissioner Kumar highlighted the seriousness of the case and mentioned that efforts were being made to treat the juveniles involved in a manner similar to the adult perpetrators. Additionally, the police have compiled a list of 756 individuals with serious criminal records, who will be under constant surveillance to prevent further criminal activities.
While the press conference was initially intended to discuss police preparations for the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival, questions about law and order quickly took center stage. Commissioner Kumar assured the public of a stricter stance on maintaining law and order during the festive season, particularly in light of recent violent incidents.
As Pune faces a growing problem of gang-related violence, the police’s aggressive approach reflects a zero-tolerance policy towards goons and organized crime. With a determination to confront hooliganism head-on, the effectiveness of this strategy in restoring peace in the city remains to be seen.
