Pune Division cracks down on ticketless travelers, collects over Rs 74 lakhs in fines

If you thought you could get away with traveling without a ticket in Pune, you might want to think again. The Pune Division recently conducted a ticket-checking initiative and found that a whopping 19,950 passengers had been traveling without tickets from April to August 2024.

As a result, a total of Rs 74,25,640 was collected in fines from these fare evaders. In addition, 2,299 passengers were fined Rs 8,78,220 for irregular and unticketed travel, while 336 travelers carrying unbooked bags were slapped with fines amounting to Rs 42,930.

Authorities are reminding passengers to adhere to the rules and regulations when it comes to traveling by train. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines, imprisonment, or both under the Railway Act.

The crackdown was carried out under the supervision of Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey and Additional Divisional Railway Manager Brijesh Kumar Singh. The team, which included ticket checking inspectors and the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Pune, was led by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr. Milind Hirwe.
