Pune Railway Station is stepping up its accessibility game with the installation of two new lifts at platform numbers 1 and 6. These lifts are set to be operational by January 2025, providing much-needed convenience for passengers, especially the elderly, children, and those with disabilities.
Divisional manager Indu Dubey highlighted the importance of these lift installations, noting that they will greatly benefit the thousands of daily commuters who pass through the station. In response to passenger requests for improved movement within the station, the railway division is also working on two more lifts, expected to be ready within the next six months.
The plan for the four lifts was approved after a survey conducted by Pune railway officials in 2022. The lifts will be strategically placed to enhance connectivity between platforms and ease congestion at the busy station. The first two lifts at platforms 1 and 6 are just the beginning, with the remaining two lifts set to follow shortly after.
While the new lifts are a welcome addition, it’s important to note that the central foot-overbridge at Pune Railway Station has been closed for public use due to structural concerns. However, the newer FOB launched in 2019 and the FOB at the Solapur end provide alternative routes for passengers to navigate the station.
With these new lift installations and ongoing improvements at Pune Railway Station, passengers can look forward to a more convenient and accessible travel experience in the coming years.
