Authorities at Pune Railway Station have cracked down on vendors who were found overcharging passengers for food and essential items. Three vendors have been fined Rs 50,000 each after evidence of their misconduct was uncovered by Dr. Aditya, a member of the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee.

Despite fixed pricing regulations set by railway authorities, vendors were found charging inflated prices, prompting complaints from passengers. Dr. Aditya went undercover to gather evidence and shared the footage on social media, leading to swift action from railway officials.

While the railway administration commended the efforts to expose overcharging, they criticized the method used, stating that covert filming and social media sharing were inappropriate. They emphasized the importance of following official protocols when reporting such violations.

Moving forward, authorities plan to conduct regular inspections to prevent overcharging and ensure compliance with fixed pricing policies. Passengers are encouraged to report any instances of overpricing through official channels rather than social media.

The case has been escalated to the railway board for further review, and steps will be taken to address the issue and improve transparency at Pune Railway Station.
