1. Pune is feeling the heat this summer, with temperatures hitting a scorching 40.2°C in Lohgaon and Koregaon Park on Wednesday—the highest recorded so far this season. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a slight relief starting Friday.
  2. The city has been experiencing above-average temperatures for the past three months, with even the winter season seeing unusual weather patterns like cloudy skies, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures. IMD data from the last decade shows that March temperatures in Shivajinagar typically range between 33.4°C and 36.7°C, but this year, the heatwave has come early.
  3. Last year, the highest March temperature recorded in Pune was 39.5°C, while in 2022 it reached 39.7°C. The hottest March on record was in 2019 with a scorching 40.8°C. This year, Lohgaon reached 40.2°C, while Koregaon Park and Chinchwad also touched 40°C. Shivajinagar, Pashan, and Magarpatta recorded temperatures of 39°C.
  4. Officials attribute the current heatwave to clear skies, low humidity, intense solar radiation, and an anti-cyclonic weather pattern. Rising temperatures in northern states and a heatwave in Gujarat have also contributed to Pune’s soaring mercury levels. Mumbai has been experiencing similar conditions recently.
  5. Pune’s temperature is currently 3°C above average, but a slight decline is expected starting Friday. Stay hydrated and stay cool as the city battles this early summer heatwave.
