Cybercriminals have been on a rampant spree in Pune, defrauding citizens of a whopping Rs 1.26 crore. These scammers have been preying on people’s fears of police and CBI action, as well as luring them with promises of work-from-home opportunities.

One victim, a woman from Kothrud, lost Rs 4.32 lakh after falling for an online work-from-home scam. The scammers even went as far as refunding her money initially to gain her trust, leading her to invest even more. When she realized she had been cheated, she promptly filed a complaint with the Kothrud Police Station.

In Wagholi, a youth was extorted of Rs 41.40 lakh after being threatened with arrest by fraudsters. They coerced him into transferring money by falsely claiming that police action was imminent. The victim reported the incident to the Wagholi Police Station.

Another youth from Wagholi was conned out of Rs 33.78 lakh in a foreign exchange trading scam. Like the previous victim, he lodged a complaint with the Wagholi Police Station.

Meanwhile, a man from Hadapsar was swindled of Rs 49.55 lakh between December 2023 and February 2024. The scammers enticed him with promises of high returns on stock market investments, initially refunding him to gain his trust. When the victim transferred more money and received no further returns, he realized he had been deceived and reported the incident to the police.

Authorities are currently investigating these cases as cyber fraud continues to rise, with scammers using elaborate schemes to target unsuspecting individuals. Stay vigilant and cautious to avoid falling prey to such scams.
