Living along the river in the Sinhagad Road area may sound picturesque, but for over 1,300 residents and 70 shops, it has become a nightmare during the rainy season. Every year, when the water level rises and floods the area, these residents have to be ‘rescued’ from their homes. But the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is now taking steps to change that.

The PMC has come up with a plan to rehabilitate these residents and shops on a nearby land owned by the PMC. Once the plan is approved by the State Government, the residents will be shifted to safer locations. This move comes after the area faced severe flooding during the last rainy season, with water levels rising till the first floor of many buildings.

The plan includes short and long-term measures for rehabilitation, with an estimated cost of Rs 300. The PMC is also looking to make additional FSI available under the new DC rules to accommodate the rehabilitation plan. The aim is to ensure the safety of residents and prevent such incidents in the future.

With the support of the State Government and MHADA, the PMC is hopeful that the rehabilitation plan will be implemented successfully. It’s a step in the right direction to protect the residents living along the river in the Sinhagad Road area. Let’s hope this plan brings relief to those who have been living in fear of floods every year.
