As the year comes to an end, Pune gears up for the New Year celebrations with a special focus on road safety. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune has launched a crackdown on drunk driving in the city, with special squads deployed from December 25 to 31.
Deputy RTO Swapnil Bhosale emphasized the need for this drive, especially during the festive season when people tend to indulge in alcohol-fueled parties. The aim is to prevent accidents and congestion on the roads.
The RTO squads are conducting breathalyzer tests on drivers at various checkpoints across the city. They are also checking for valid driving licenses and vehicle registration papers. If anyone is found driving under the influence of alcohol, legal action will be taken.
Not only are adult drivers being targeted, but minors riding two-wheelers are also being tested. Parents are being advised to ensure that their children do not drive vehicles after consuming alcohol.
With restaurants, bars, and pubs allowed to operate until late at night on New Year’s Eve, there is a higher risk of drunk driving incidents. Liquor shops can stay open until 1 am, and celebrations can continue until 5 am. To ensure the safety of everyone on the roads, nakabandi operations will be conducted throughout the city.
So, as you prepare to ring in the New Year, remember to party responsibly. Don’t drink and drive, ensure you have all necessary documents with you, and follow traffic rules to make sure everyone has a safe and happy celebration.
