Hey Pune folks, have you heard about the latest challenge the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) is facing? It seems like there’s a new trend of fake High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) being installed by unauthorized vendors in the city. These counterfeit plates are being sold at lower prices than the official ones, which goes against the guidelines set by the RTO.

The Central Government has mandated that all vehicles registered before April 2019 must have HSRPs installed by March 31, 2025 (extended till April now). In Pune district alone, about 2.5 lakh older vehicles need to comply with this deadline. To get the HSRP installed, vehicle owners have to register online, provide their vehicle details, pay the fees, and schedule an inspection at a fitness center. After completing these steps, the HSRP will be installed at authorized locations.

But here’s the catch – some unauthorized vendors are offering fake HSRPs that look almost identical to the real ones but are much cheaper. These fake plates can pose serious safety risks on the roads and legal issues for vehicle owners.

Deputy RTO officer Swapnil Bhosale is urging citizens to only choose authorized centers for HSRP installations to avoid any future problems. He stressed the importance of installing HSRPs through authorized vendors to prevent legal and safety issues.

The RTO has issued a warning against unauthorized vendors selling fake HSRPs and is taking strict action to stop the sale of counterfeit plates and maintain the integrity of the traffic system.

So, Puneites, make sure to register on the official website and only purchase HSRPs from authorized centers to stay on the right side of the law and ensure road safety. Let’s all do our part in keeping Pune’s roads safe and compliant with regulations.
