Hey Pune folks, buckle up because the Regional Transport Office (RTO) is cracking down on underage drivers in your city! That’s right, if your kid is caught behind the wheel before they hit 18, you could be looking at a hefty fine of Rs 25,000 or even a prison sentence of up to three years.
It seems like around schools and colleges, there’s been a trend of minors zipping around on two-wheelers with engines over 50 cc, speeding, carrying too many passengers, and honking up a storm. Not only is this dangerous, but it’s also against the law. So, the RTO is on a mission to put a stop to it with their inspection campaign led by Deputy Regional Transport Officer Swapnil Bhosale.
According to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 and the Central Motor Vehicles Rules of 1989, if a minor is caught driving, the owner of the vehicle is in hot water too. Plus, it’s a big no-no for kids to be cruising around on vehicles with engines over 50 cc in public spaces. So, if your child is caught red-handed, you could be looking at a serious fine or even time behind bars.
Deputy RTO Bhosale has received complaints about minors causing chaos on the roads near schools and colleges, and it’s not just the boys – girls are getting in on the action too. With concerns about traffic jams and accidents on the rise, the RTO is determined to put a stop to underage driving in Pune.
So, parents, make sure your kids stay off the roads until they’re legally allowed to drive – or else you might find yourself in some serious trouble. Stay safe out there, Pune!
