In a bid to enhance road safety in Pune, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has implemented a new rule that vehicles cannot be delivered to customers without registration numbers. This move comes in the aftermath of a tragic accident involving a Porsche Taycan, which has highlighted the importance of proper vehicle registration.

Regional Transport Officer, Sanjeev Bhor, has made it clear that strict action will be taken against dealers who fail to comply with this directive. The Motor Vehicle Act mandates that vehicle dealers must register vehicles and assign them registration numbers before handing them over to customers.

The incident involving the Porsche Taycan has underscored the issue of pending vehicle registrations. The luxury car had been awaiting permanent registration since March, as the owner had not paid the necessary fees. Three RTO inspectors have examined the vehicle to determine its condition and any factors that may have contributed to the accident.

This crackdown on unregistered vehicles is aimed at ensuring that all vehicles on Pune’s roads are properly registered and safe to drive. It serves as a reminder to both dealers and customers of their legal obligations under the Motor Vehicle Act.
