The safety of students in Pune has been a growing concern as crime incidents, especially sexual exploitation and molestation, have been on the rise in schools and colleges. Just last month, a minor girl was sexually assaulted in a school van, and another college girl was sexually abused. These incidents have highlighted the vulnerability of young girls to such predatory behavior.
In an effort to address this issue, the Pune RTO administration has mandated that all vehicles owned by schools and colleges in the city must be registered online. Within the next 15 days, all schools and colleges are required to provide information about their school vans and buses on the RTO website. Failure to comply with this directive may result in a notice being sent to the non-compliant institutions.
One particularly alarming case involved a school van driver who sexually assaulted a minor girl in the Wanowrie area of Pune. Similar incidents have been reported in other parts of the city, prompting increased vigilance in the community. Currently, there are 6,000 school vans registered in Pune, but only 60% of their drivers possess the necessary qualification certificates.
The education department and local authorities are working together to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of students in Pune. By enforcing stricter regulations on school vehicles and drivers, they aim to create a safer environment for all students in the city.
