What a surprise at a routine police checkpoint in Junnar Taluka’s Otur! A pickup truck carrying what was supposed to be milk turned out to have a hidden stash of hand-kilned, country-made liquor worth approximately Rs 10,000. The checkpoint was on the Ahmednagar-Kalyan Highway as part of the Code of Conduct for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections.
Assistant Police Inspector LG Thate, who is in charge of the Otur Police Station, shared that the checkpoint had been set up the day before. Around 10:00 AM, a pickup milk tempo caught the attention of the police due to its suspicious appearance. Upon inspection, they found the unexpected cargo of liquor.
The driver, Dattatraya Kale, was questioned about the liquor and is now facing charges under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act of 1949. The seized liquor, valued at Rs 10,000, and the pickup truck, valued at Rs 4.50 lakh, have been confiscated. Police Inspector L.G. Thate is currently looking into the matter to uncover more details.
