- The long-awaited demolition of the 50-year-old Sadhu Vaswani Bridge in Pune is finally underway, with the final hurdles cleared.
- The relocation of 20 remaining huts from beneath the bridge to the SRA scheme in Hadapsar has allowed the Pune Municipal Corporation to speed up the process.
- Delays in securing a continuous block from the Railways and the presence of a slum settlement on the Camp side had previously stalled the demolition work.
- The relocation of slum residents has now been completed, allowing the PMC to accelerate the demolition work.
- The PMC, in coordination with the Railways, will dismantle the section over the railway line in phases to ensure train services are not disrupted.
- The demolition work began on Wednesday, and the PMC aims to construct a new bridge within nine months, improving connectivity between Koregaon Park and the Cantonment area.
