Have you heard the latest news coming out of Pune? Well, it seems like the Pune City Police’s Traffic Branch has some good news to share. They’ve reported a significant decrease in road accidents in the city, and they’re crediting it to a series of measures they’ve implemented in partnership with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

According to the data, there’s been a noticeable drop in fatalities, with 334 deaths recorded in 2023 and 310 in 2024. That’s definitely something to celebrate!

So, what exactly has been done to improve road safety in Pune? Well, it looks like the police and PMC have been working hard to enhance road quality, fix potholes, mark lanes, and remove obstacles. They’ve also been cracking down on violations like drunk driving, wrong-side driving, and triple-seat riding.

But that’s not all – the police have even proposed canceling licenses for habitual traffic offenders, and the RTO has already revoked 1,345 licenses. And with the PMC’s help, they’ve managed to reduce the number of accident-prone “blackspots” from 60 to 36.

In addition to all of this, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar is taking a stand against pubs and bars in Pune that are breaking the rules. It seems that many of these establishments have been staying open late into the night, leading to increased youth addiction and accidents. And to make matters worse, there have been reports of drug smuggling activities taking place in some of these places.

It’s great to see the efforts being made to improve road safety and crack down on illegal activities in Pune. Let’s hope these measures continue to make a positive impact on the city!
