Pune has been experiencing a significant rise in minimum temperatures over the past 48 hours, with a notable increase of 7.7°C. The city, which saw single-digit temperatures last week, saw a quick rise from 9.8°C to 17.4°C within just two days.
This sudden shift in weather patterns is said to be the aftermath of Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall and dissipated, releasing moisture into the atmosphere. According to experts, this moisture surge played a significant role in the rising temperatures in Pune and other regions in Maharashtra.
The temperature fluctuations in Pune have been quite drastic over the past few days, with the city recording single-digit temperatures on November 27 and 28. However, the minimum temperature rose to 17.4°C on December 2, marking a 7.7°C increase in just 48 hours.
Anupam Kashyapi, a former head of the Weather and Forecasting division at IMD Pune, explained that the weakening of Cyclone Fengal and blocked northerly winds contributed to the rise in minimum temperature.
The IMD has predicted mild rainfall in Maharashtra for the next few days, with Pune experiencing mostly cloudy weather and temperatures staying above average. A low-pressure area in north Tamil Nadu is expected to bring light rainfall to central Maharashtra on December 5 and 6.
As of December 2, the maximum temperature in Pune was recorded at 29.6°C, close to the normal for this time of year. Most districts in Maharashtra are currently experiencing below-average maximum temperatures.
With fluctuating temperatures and continued mild rainfall expected in the coming days, residents of Pune and other regions in Maharashtra should be prepared for changing weather conditions.
