Larvae Found in Food at SPPU Boys’ Hostel, ABVP Demands Accountability
Another incident of food contamination has come to light at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), with larvae being discovered in the food served at Boys’ Hostel No. 8. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists took action by confronting the mess owner and demanding accountability for the unhygienic conditions. As a result, the hostel mess was shut down.
Shiva Barole, a member of the Catering Quality Control Committee, expressed concerns about the persistent issues with hygiene and sanitation in the hostel mess and canteen. Students have repeatedly found insects and larvae in their meals, despite previous complaints and protests. The lack of improvement in the situation has left students frustrated and worried about the quality of food being served on campus.
SPPU, being a prestigious institution attracting students from various parts of Maharashtra and beyond, is expected to maintain high standards of food quality in its mess facilities. However, the ongoing reports of unhygienic conditions and contamination in the hostel messes have raised serious concerns among the student community. It remains to be seen how the university administration will address these issues and ensure the health and safety of its students in the future.
