Hey there, Punekars! Have you been feeling the chill lately? Well, you’re not alone. Pune and its surrounding areas are currently experiencing a cold wave like never before. In fact, temperatures have dropped below those in typically cooler destinations like Mahabaleshwar and Lonavala.

Just today, we saw some record-breaking low temperatures across the city. NDA hit a bone-chilling 8.2°C, while Haveli (Loni Kalbhor) wasn’t far behind at 9.1°C. Malin, Shivajinagar, and Pashan all saw temperatures below 10°C as well.

And get this – on Friday, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 9.5 degrees Celsius, which is even lower than what Mahabaleshwar and Lonavala are experiencing. How crazy is that?

So, what’s causing this unexpected cold spell? Well, it turns out there’s a severe low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal that’s evolving into Cyclone Fengal. While the cyclone is set to impact states like Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala, its indirect effects are definitely being felt here in Maharashtra.

According to expert meteorologist Anupam Kashyapi, the reduced humidity in the air is to blame for the drop in temperatures. The northward flow of winds, combined with the cyclone’s effects, is making Pune feel colder than ever. Who would’ve thought we’d be shivering more than folks in Mahabaleshwar and Lonavala?

As Cyclone Fengal makes its way northwest, we can expect even lower humidity levels in Maharashtra and Central India. This means more cold winds from the north, which could lead to even colder nights in Pune in the days to come.

But hey, let’s look on the bright side – while Mahabaleshwar and Lonavala are known for their cool weather, Pune is stealing the show with this unexpected winter chill. So bundle up, Punekars, and enjoy this early taste of the winter season. Who knows how long this cold wave will last!
