Is it just me, or is it getting hotter in here? Pune experienced its hottest January day in over a decade, with temperatures soaring to 34.6°C on Saturday. The last time it was this hot in January was way back in 2009 when the mercury hit the same mark. And let’s not forget the all-time record of 35.3°C set in 2009 as well.
Weather experts are scratching their heads over this unusual heatwave, attributing it to an anticyclonic circulation over central India, including Maharashtra. This system is basically trapping hot air and pushing temperatures through the roof. But don’t sweat it too much – they predict a cool down in the next few days.
But it’s not just Pune feeling the heat. Mumbai and Ratnagiri are also experiencing higher-than-normal temperatures, with Santacruz hitting 34.5°C and Ratnagiri sweltering at 36.1°C. Even Pune’s Lohgaon area saw nighttime temperatures a whopping 6.6°C above average.
So, while we wait for the weather to chill out, let’s hope this heatwave is just a blip on the radar and not a sign of things to come. Stay cool, Pune!
